Minutes of the 2006Annual General Meeting
held at 7.30pm on Friday 10th November 2006 in the Glastonbury Library
Neill Bonham was in the chair.
1. Apologies for absence: Professors B J Coles and J D Coles, Mrs A Heeley, Ms M Acland-Hood, and Mr and Mrs J Morland.
2. Minutes of the last Annual General Meeting held on 18th November 2005
The minutes were approved.
3. Matters arising from the Minutes
The Secretary reported that the 5000 reprint of the Flyers advertising the Society and the Tribunal, costing £418.86, had been delivered.
A notice had been placed in the Library to the effect that David Orchard would be available on Monday afternoons between 2.00 p.m. and 4.00 p.m. in order that access to the Society’s Library could be via him. David was thanked for his efforts.
4. Chairman’s Report – the Chairman spoke to his Report. A copy is annexed to the filed Minutes in the Minute Book.
The Chairman further reported that:-
Due to circumstances beyond her control, Juliet Faith (formerly Egan) would be unable to give the publicised January talk on the ‘Knights Templar in Somerset’. John Brunsdon offered to speak in January and a later date would be arranged for Juliet Faith.
The Chairmen proposed that, since the rear first floor room at the Tribunal that formerly held some of the Society’s artifacts was no longer available, an alternative site be found for them. On his recommendation it was agreed to support an approach to the Town Council for a display in the Town Hall of artifacts relating to the development of the town of Glastonbury and that a sub-committee be formed.
The Chairman reported that 1500 copies of the new edition of the ‘The Lake Villages of Somerset’ booklet had been printed. The cost was £2118.75 or £1.41 per booklet. It was agreed that 40 booklets should be made available in order that each Secondary School in the area could have a free copy.
5. Nancy Hollinrake circulated and spoke to the Accounts to 31st August 2006
The Accounts were accepted and Nancy was thanked by the Meeting for her work on them.
6. Election of Officers and Committees
Librarian
It was decided to make the post of Honorary Librarian an Officer of the Society. The Society’s Librarian would be responsible for the Society’s collection displayed in locked cases at the County Library in Archers Way and would be the only person entitled to removes book and other materials from the premises.
Town Hall Display Sub Committee
This Sub-Committee would prepare proposals for the contents and arrangement of the display within the Town Hall.
