[ The rear of the White Hart Inn yard now has the Assembly Rooms built on the remains of teh stables. The doorway from it to the Inn close is the one, now blocked, with the whale jaw bones. The name 'Linguist's Corner' was probably given to the remains of the medieval abbots' hall that has a staircase that could have ben used for open air preaching. The gateway shown in Magdalene St is approx. where the municipal toilets now stand. ]
